Rescue Centre
In 2012 I began volunteering at the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Breeding Centre in Stara Zagora, as a result of which I am now a full time member of staff. Whilst a lot of what I do there can be hard work, clearing back trees and weeds, walkways, weeding, cleaning cages etc it all seems so worth it, just being around the birds and being a part of something so rewarding. It is also great to be surrounded by people that care so much about the job they are doing. Before coming to Bulgaria I had no interest in nature at all. Now I couldn't imagine it not being part of my future. Thank you to all the staff at the centre for accepting me, especially with my Bulgarian not being all that it should, and for making me feel like I am part of the team.
My main responsibility is working on the breeding project that will see the reintroduction of the Saker Falcon as I breeding bird back to the wilds of Bulgaria.
I am also the Supervisor of the "Old base" which is responsible for the breeding birds and visitors section. I am also responsible for the training and care of the birds that are used for handling and allowing the visitors to get a closer experience with the birds.
